Porsche 914
the 4th aircooled playcar in family is my dad's 914's. after finishing a 3 year full off restoration, it will get a historic licence plate, following friday.
to check all the techs, we have done a really impressive ride this evening.
everythink works fine, as well.

i thougt, the damage of the last run is now repaired...
....
but after one day of welding a new conection for the carb linkage, i polished the stacks, also.
so happy to have the little default fitted, i saw a little oil drop at the tranny case. i cleaned it yesterday to search the reason of the leak and saw
the case is cracked at the bottom!
i am really pissed off :-(
so i had to change the case into another new one in the following 4 weeks....

the first turn out in 2006


yesterday, we did the first turn out on the airbase in eisenach-kindel. thank's to the team around "klaus", they did great job with lots of spectators and very professional strip action.

the new tranny looks perfect of close ratio, the axles looks like heavy duty, also - but the traction was no good. cold strip-temperature, no trackbit, no smoked rubber from frontwheelers.

we did the first run carefully in set up, high pressured tires, no burn out, low launch revs, low shift points (400 rpm less as normally). the car get fast spinning wheels at launching, wheel spins in the second gear, also but very high punch in the third and fourth gear. as i shift from 3rd to 4th, i heard a heavy noise from the motor, so i lift the throotle and push the clutch. at the end, there's a 12,9 on the slip - bad time, no worry.

the noise was the result of an broken carburator linkage on left side, so just the right carb opened the throotle at the end of the run. so it looks like perfect for new high scores this year if the linkage is new constucted and produced, closed.

benni leave the richarzzz team for this saison, cause he went to usa/oregon on following thursday to do some practice expiriences in the top fuel team of the oregon state university. we wish him good luck, a lot of fun in the nhra-scene. take care and come back, soon!

close gear ratio inside
i get the fresh rebuilt gearbox (scat glose geares) on friday (schwarzwaldperformace, thank's to armin) and started immidiatly to install it. after moments of unknowledgement if it will fix right, i become a boost of adrenalin as i saw it could work well on the rised tranny fork. so i start to cut some pices out of the fork to have some space for the heavy duty c.v. joints.
installation was done in a few minutes and i installed the engine, also. so the saturday was a perfect day, especially the sun shines on me as i was working outside the garage without gloves and beanie.

impressions from the barn....
the fucking cold temps let me drift in some sentimenthal moments, sometimes. i am looking forward to put the covers from the oval or the 914 to open the roof, turn up "the highway to hell song" and rev it up - what's up spring, come on....!

tranny, now ready to install
after many weeks of waiting for the tranny parts from california and a lot of problems with the syncrorings and the keyed sizes, the tranny get finished today and i will get it tomorrow.
i have to rise it up about 25mm to fix the porsche motorsport c.v. joints with 108mm in diameter, chromo-cage, heavy duty and lightened.
because the first turnout for t&t will be in about 14 days, so i know what i have to do - reduce sleeping and hurry up in the garage, no time to loose!

lowered polyseat
the seat position was too high, yet. so i lowered the base last monday and have a smooth sitting, right now. the 3" simpson harnesses are fixed at the cage. raceflair is inside ;-)

the new tach is wired
my personal christmas gift to myselfe is ready installed and wired. it is a autometer 5" monster with shiftlight, recall, pc-port and oillight.

Four point rollcage
last weekend, i welded the 4-point rollcage. after hours of cutting the chromo tubes, welding was little work - painting with semi gloss black was fast done, too.

Colorfull
As the car was ready to run, i know that such a bundle of mixed colores could not be the last in design. so i choosed a traditional primer design and changed the colormix into grey.

The look is necessary....
Showcondition is not prioritiy, but the traditional cal look should be a theme of the project. So i put a pair of 4,5" fuchs with 125 firestones out of stock, 7" fuchs with PHOENIX drag slicks (26x6x15w), narrowed and lowered beam, rear in stock high, 67th hoods, no bumpers, one piece windows but chrome.

Weight Watchers
the cheapest ponies is to reduce weight. so i start to cut a hole bundle of iron from the car, put a small alloy tank, put an polyseat inside and changed the windows to makrolons

Burn Out Engineering
To get the right temp to the rear wheels, everybody know, a burn out is way to go. so i installed a hurst line lock to the breaking system.

free and easy way to go
to work free on the engine, tranny and the axels, i joint to build a flip heck with dzeus fastners. so i cut the heck and welded the rear wings to the apron.

The Kwicki
The oval was to good to scratch the exterior on changing parts, inspect the mechanic and put it up and down the trailer...
so i start to scout for a new projekt especially for the strip action - no show but go, so the go will be the show.
i found the kwicki in a buddies barn, one hand owner, litte rusty but very good basics, 78.000 km on the speedo.

2004 - the first saison with the virus dragracing
I compete 2 t&t's on the bitburg airbase, the 1/8-mile in dietzenbach, the DDD#2 and the Nitro Olympics in Hockenheim.
As i put the oval on the trailer in Hockenheim, i was thinking about the future and I was sure to destroy the 13 second timewall - not to know how.

Drag Racing Virus
As the restauration of the '56 oval has finished in the summer of 2003 with a heavy roll out party, i was waiting for the comming 2004 saison to compete in my first t&t-weekend in Bitburg.
